Netherlands punished us for our mistakes, says Falconets boss Danjuma

Chris Danjuma, the coach of Nigerian U-20 women's football team Falconets,  blamed  certain mistakes during the match for his team's loss to the Netherlands.

Falconets lost 2-0 to their Dutch opponents in the quarter-finals of the  FIFA  U-20 Women's World Cup 2022 in Costa Rica.  Despite winning all three of her group stage games  against France, South Korea and Canada, the Danjuma Girls fell short of any chance of advancing to  the last four. "Football is about punishing opponents for their mistakes," Danjuma said at the post-match press conference.

"I think we had some bad starts and  were penalized for it and we had our chances and didn't take them.

"Football is  about taking  chances. But it's just a shame because no one wants to participate and lose. We've always wanted to go, but it didn't happen."

The Netherlands will face Spain in the semi-finals.
